Story
I have been in & out of the Royal Children’s Hospital for the first 18 months of my life and although nothing is 100% I have currently been diagnosed with congenital bone marrow failure syndrome, requiring red cell transfusion with severe ongoing neutropenia. I have been seen by haematology, oncology, dermatology and cardiac within RCH over the past 18 months and the hospital has become my home away from home. I do love the the hospital (ecspecially the meerkats & the fish) but I'd always prefer to be at home.
My parents (Mat & Tan) & I are so grateful of the support we have all received from Royal Children’s Hospital and not to forget to mention the support of the Murdoch Foundation when Mat & Tan found out that they were both Cystic Fibrosis carriers whilst mum was pregnant with me. As a result, I am also a Cystic Fibrosis carrier. The care provided and delicacy given by them during a nerving time was enormous.
I'm now kind of lucky enough to see Anthea Greenway in Haematology on a regular basis. I'd rather not be in hospital but I think she is been brilliant on both a professional and personal level. The knowledge and genuine care for me is exceptional and my parents & I can't thank Anthea and the team at the Royal Children's Hospital enough for all their help and support with me. It is amazing how committed they are at trying to help every step of the way. Although I didn't appreciate that one nurse who stuck a thermometer up my out hole... so I pooped on her!
Already in my short life I have had multiple bone marrow biopsies under a general anaesthetic, lumbar punctures, blood transfusions and countless blood tests and intravenous therapy. Only last week I had another blood transfusion but I'm already back on my feet. I'm very resilient so a blood transfusion won't stop me!
Now has come the time we are asking people to step up and do something to help out the Royal Children's Hospital and to thank them for all the help they have given not only with me but all children.
I'm asking everyone to please dig deep to sponsor ‘Team Tommy’ in the Run for the Kids to help the Royal Children's Hospital. Even if you just go without a coffee for a day and donate just $4.00, every little bit will help and it only takes a few seconds to donate by making a secure online donation and a message of support.
